The 64-bit kernel effort was kick started by the R8000 comming.
So we had prototype code code on the R4400 (R4000 had 64bit bugs)
a short time before bring-up.

That step is probably fairly easy with NetBSD as the code is
fairly clean, and already running 64 bit on a few platforms.
