Aha. Mostly like I thought.

In this case it goes the oposite direction. There is port-prep, what
seams to be the right home for (RS6k) CHRP machines too. And where can I
get the CHRP specs? I googled but all I can find is
http://chrp.apple.com/CHRPSpec.pdf and
ftp://ftp.austin.ibm.com/pub/technology/, but this links aren't valid.
