I have also tried to replace the kernel with the netbsd-WSCONS.gz (NetBSD 3.1)
file (that is, without gunziping it).
It works ! The system is booting fine with the compressed kernel, the X
login mask do appear and the mouse is in working condition.

I can log in, but somewhat seems to be wrong in the X config : after a root
login, there is nothing in the root window else the "Console log" window.
The mouse buttons does not work as usual: it is not possible to get any
X menu with the mouse buttons.

I will try this also asap.
