I had a similar problem with an out of date 'pkg_install' on
'NetBSD/pmax 1.5.2' (DECstation 5000/150) 2 days ago.
Since yesterday's daily update of my 'pkgsrc' tree, the problem do
not longer occur.

To fix your problem, you have probably to update again your
'pkgsrc' tree using 'sup' or whatever.
