we have a bunch of linux boxes at work that NFS mount the software they run as
well as store the data they use on NFS mounts.  sometimes the NFS mounts will
hang (using EMC POS NFS server appliances, don't have this problem with the
machines that use the NetApps) and so the apps will stop responding, and can't
be killed.

the solution is to try and do a umount -f on the filesystem.  keep in mind that
this does the trick under LINUX not NETBSD, so it of course may not work for
you, but is definitely worth trying.

the interesting thing to note however, is that umount -f never actually unmounts
the filesystem, but somehow clears the error and things end up working as they
are supposed to.  odd.
