I had a similar problem, installation from my wasabi CD failed on my
personnal DECstation with gzip complaining that the tarball wasn't in gzip
format.  I went thru some of the other arch's and it *appeared* that they
were all bad.  I ended up trying again, and the next time around it worked,
no problems.  IDK what happened.  My guess is that perhaps the SCSI bus had
a double-bit error loading the section of the ramdisk that held gzip.  Hope
it doesn't happen again!
