Hi all,

I'm having some interesting quirks on a new-to-me 5000/120 trying to do a
boot from CD. Here's a few snippets to give a basic idea of setup:

--
>>printenv
 boot=
 testaction=q
 haltaction=h
 more=24
 #=3
 console=*
 osconsole=3
>>cnfg 3
 3: KN02-BA  DEC      V5.7c    TCF0  ( 32 MB)
                                     (enet: 08-00-2b-1c-16-2c)
                                     (SCSI = 7)
            ---------------------------------------------------
            DEV PID VID REV SCSI DEV
            ===== ================== ========== ====== ========
            rz3   RZ24     (C) DEC   DEC        211B   DIR
            rz4   RRD42   (C) DEC    DEC        1.4a   CD-ROM

        dcache( 64 KB), icache( 64 KB)
        mem( 0):  a0000000:a03fffff  (  4 MB)
	...
        mem( 7):  a1c00000:a1ffffff  (  4 MB)
--

No matter what I do, the RRD42 refuses to give anything but "?IO:
3/rz4/netbsd (bb rd)". This is a CD that I've booted other machines from,
so that's not the problem. I tried taking the RZ24 out of the chain: no
luck. I tried changing the SCSI ID of the RRD42 (to 5 and 1): no luck. I
have noticed that if a CD is in the drive during SCSI detecton, like an
"init 3" command, the access light comes on as it should. However, during
any access command like "boot 3/rz4/netbsd" the light never comes on. It
gives the same failure response in the same amount of time no matter what
CD I have in the drive, or even with no CD at all.

Is there something else I can try? The 512-byte jumper is in, given that
it's reporting itself as an RRD42.

One more quirk that may or may not be related: if you issue any sort of
boot command to the RZ24, the drive spins up and the system attempts to
boot but then dumps you back to the console with:

--
KN02-BA V5.7c    (PC: 0x0, SP: 0x801ffec0)
>>
--

Note that I have no idea as to the contents of the RZ24, although I have a
feeling it's got Ultrix 4.3 or 4.4. Could this be related?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone has to offer.
