My 1.4.1 system has been offline for over a year due to hardware failure, but
is now up and running again. I don't have any real gripes about it, save for
the fact that a few packages will core-dump, and that most packages are
compiled for either 1.4.2 or 1.5.
I've been following the list regarding all the problems, particularly related
to performance, which have arisen due to the integration of machine-
independent devices as well as the cycle of the moon, according to some.
So, what version is safe to run, without any performance degradations compared
to 1.4.1?
