I put in wscons into ttys and kill -HUP 1; no go. /etc does have a
wscons.conf in it. Any more ideas?

Nothing else in /etc/ttys. But the rcons/wscons could be the issue.
I probably copied /etc/ttys from 1.4 to 1.5. Will try it out later.
