My DECstation 5000/33 works with a Viewsonic 17PS. It work's real good.
I plugged in the 3 BNC-connectors according to color thats all.
Important is that the monitor supports sync-on-green.

separate sync: H-sync and V-sync are different pins + colors (VGA)
composite sync: H/V-sync is one pin + colors (old Mac's and Sun's,....)
sync on green: H/V-sync is mix with green signal + red and blue.

At www.monitorworld.com is a big list of monitors, pinouts, cabels,
adapters, .....
www.griffintechnology.com/monitor.html is a second list, it is more
related to Mac.
