alright,

scsi pb reports that 7 is KN01 SII
3 is an rz23l
2 is an rz32

when I type boot -f rz(0,3,0)/vmunix it makes a kind of circular grinding noise.
when I type boot -f rz(0,2,0)/vmunix the hdd spins up and I get a very long what 
would appear to be kernel panic.
