The ACCESS.bus and the SERIAL.bus are the same thing and only exists
on the maxine. The original DEC literature and the maxine manuals
refer to it as SERIAL.bus. The concept of the single peripheral bus was
so good that an external consortium decided to market the bus for
use on all computers. The bus capabilities were extended and it was
renamed to ACCESS.bus. It didn't catch on.
