Subject: Unrecognized drives on DS3100

As part of our plan to eliminate Ultrix from our site by the end of the
year, I've recently upgraded a DECsystem 3100 from Ultrix to NetBSD. Thus
far, we've been able to run all the old home-grown Ultrix apps beautifully
under Ultrix compatibility mode.

We have run into one problem, however: NetBSD (either release-branch
kernels or -current ones) fails to detect one of the drives hooked up to
the machine. After it detects rz0, the drive light on the second drive
flickers a little, but NetBSD doesn't detect an rz1. (Which is quite
funny given that I bootstrapped NetBSD by booting an ecoff-format install
kernel I dropped in the Ultrix root directory on rz1, using the Ultrix
bootblocks also on rz1!)

The drive which NetBSD doesn't find is a Hitachi DK515C. The one that
NetBSD does find is a DEC RZ56. Both are in external enclosures. Both
the PROM and Ultrix find both drives. I've tried switching the SCSI
cables so that rz1 is closest to the CPU, with no difference in results...

Has anyone else seen behavior like this? This is what is currently the
main thing holding up the migration process away from Ultrix...

PROM test -c output:
