I do use a 10BaseT UTP network and have a transceiver to convert the
interface. I tried running TCPDUMP when I booted the nfsnetbsd kernel to
see what it was asking for when it wouldn't mount root from my server and
again when trying to ping out of the box. It reported no traffic. Neither
did the hub (none of the lights flashed as is the case when a ping usually
happens :) )

Just incase it was a link-detection problem I removed the tranceiver from
the box whilst it was booting (ie so it started with the netowrk link
down) and replaced it once I was at the shell promt. This didn't work
unfortunately..

I'm starting to think this box is slightly odd!

Cheers everyone
