This commonly happens to cars up here in canada.  You park your nice warm
car overnight and a cat inevitably finds its way into the engine compartment
and falls asleep... Then you start your car in the morning and.....well..
It's amazing how quickly a cat can go through 9-lives at 2000rpm.

maybe there's a cat in your power supply?
