Got the thing installed with the generic 1.4 install kernel, using
serial
console (thanks for pointing out that it was looking for a terminal on
#3),
and then ftp'd Simon's generic+px runtime kernel.

Seems my 5000/125 was having a problem with the install kernel by
itself,
because it installed flawlessly with the regular installer, and it is
running
fine with Simon's kernel.  Hrm!
