port-pmax: emacs no longer works with X11?

I unpacked the latest X11 libraries and binaries, and built a few
packages.  The rebuilt 1.4 emacs package coredumps if I try and start
it with X.

Worse yet, I re-installed the 1.3.3 emacs binary package and that
coredumps, too.

I dont have a clue where either coredump is because (ahah) gdb
coredumps when I try and read the emacs.core.

Anybody else seeing anything similar? I beleiv I've run emacses 
with Andy's new Xpmax xserver; anyone else noticed any changes?
