Hi there,

problems with booting my DECStation 5000/200 via TFTP and BOOTP from the
Windows machine are managed.
Problem was a timeout and the TFTP-Server had to retry at least 300 times
for a kernel.
But there is another problem. The kernel was transferred and I shortly saw a
message anything saying about console not found.
Than the screen was fully white or black and the machine hangs.
Next try was booting a prerelease from Linux/MIPS (2.1.99), just to see the
error.
The kernel was transferred and the DECStattion says

>>boot 6/tftp
874000+4528+97728
Linux/MIPS DECStation Boot
[...]
Found a REX compatible boot PROM
This DECStation is a DS5000/200 with 16384kB RAM
CPU is a R3000 with 64kB I-Cache and 64kB D-Cache
Got the following for the osconsole env. variable: 0,7
Should set graphics console in slot 0, kbd/mouse in slot:7
Will be using PROM console!
Moving kernel Image from 80200000 to 80030000
Launching kernel ...
[...]

What's this with the osconsole environment? What should it be?
The message from the NetBSD kernel also says something about the console.
What's the correct setting?

The status LEDs on the back? Are they the same as on the DECStation 3100? I
mean all LEDs on means system halted?
Anyone with a documentation out there?

Thanks for helping,

Henning Schreiber
