Hi there.

I tried to boot my DECStation 5000/200 through bootp/tftp. Just to try out
starting a kernel,
before I get worried about installing it through harddisk (there is no
harddisk at the moment and I have no SCSI adapter on my PC).

--------------------------------------------------
the configuration of the bootp server:

DECStation:tc=default:ht=ethernet:\
:ha=08002B1BD5F7:ip=192.168.0.21:bf=netbsd.ecoff\
:hn:sm=255.255.255.0

Also tried with:
nfsnetbsd.ecoff
nfsnetbsd.ecoff.not-stripped
nfsnetbsd.ecoff.stripped

All taken from the Internet from Version 1.3.3

The messages of the DECStation are:

KN02-AA V5.3c
>>boot 6/tftp
1250320

bootp gets bootp request from the DECStation

04.02.99 20:32 - BOOTP from 08002B1BD5F7 [192.168.0.21] [DECStation]

tftp gets request (why 4 times???)

DOWNLOAD Thu Feb 04 20:32:25 192.168.0.21 TIMEOUT netbsd.ecoff

After a while I get the following on the DECStation:

>>boot 6/tftp
1250320?IO: 6/tftp, tmout
?IO: 6/tftp, a.out err (-5)
>>

The tftp server ends with:

DOWNLOAD Thu Feb 04 20:42:24 192.168.0.21 TIMEOUT netbsd.ecoff

So there are ten minutes between start and end. How long does the machine
normally takes to boot
through bootp/tftp?

Problems known about starting the bootp and tftp on Windxxs? I have no
working Linux station at
home.

Windxxs 95 Version 4.00.950
Lanworks BOOTP Server v1.1 Aug. 11/97 evaluation version
Lanworks Bootware TFTP Server v1.00 August 1/97 evaluation version

Other problem with my second DECStation. I can't get the boot prompt (>>). I
just get a prompt R>
All correct commands are ignored. But when I type "boot xyz" I get the
normal error message.
Anything known about it?

I put the output of "printenv" here, too. Perhaps it will help:

First machine (tries to boot but timeout):

testaction=q
haltaction=b
more=24
#=7
console=1
bootpvend=0x0027be0
boot=-n 6/tftp
osconsole=0,7

Second machine can't get "printenv". Just answers again with prompt R>!

--------------------------------------------------
Please give me some hints. If you think that's the wrong kernel, or I should
try another, please give me the http or ftp address and I'll try it soon.

Thanks, Henning
