port-pmax: CD-ROM not recognized?

Hi, I connect a CD-ROM to DECsystem 5000/260, the `cnfg 3' shows:
  DEV   PID                    VID     REV  SCSI DEV
  rz4   CD-ROM  XM-3401TA      TOSHIBA 0283    DIR
But `dmesg' shows:
  rz4: Drive not ready

What's the problem? Can I use this CR-ROM?
