I think this is how it works on the 3100 and 5000/200 with the dc
serial chip, too. the prom output is only there because the old scc
driver doesnt get set up as console driver until the normal OS
autoconfiguration finds the scc. 

i spose I could try hacking that together for 1.3.3, but we're going
to using Nisimura-san's code for 1.4, and there's other things i think
are more urgent for 1.3.3.
