Hi Eric!

>I just picked up a DECstation 5000/120 at a computer flea market.
Hope you didn't pay much for it ;-)

>PMAG-A framebuffer and 4 memory simms (I think that they are 8 mb each).
Usually only 2Mb each :-(

The default console output of a DECstation 5000/120 is via the graphics.
Unlike other types of workstations, DECstation does not automatically
switch to serial console if output via graphics is not possible.
Connect the vt320 to serial3! and try to connect a keyboard to the
keyboard port. After "boot" the keyboard should do keyklicks. Type blind:

setenv console s

This should switch output to vt320.

To the LED code: oxxo oxxo : Memory bank 0 could not be initialized.

btw: this was an inspiration to do:

http://anna.anatomie.uni-freiburg.de/~gamel/pmax/led.html

a hand-made copy of the table that lists the LEDcodes in the manual. :-)

Control the conections of your simms. The memory modules should be set
two at a time in one bank#:

correct: 1 mmmnmmm mmmnmmm false: 1 mmmnmmm -------
          2 mmmnmmm mmmnmmm 2 mmmnmmm -------
          3 ------- ------- 3 mmmnmmm -------
          4 ------- ------- 4 mmmnmmm -------
          5 ------- ------- 5 ------- -------
          6 ------- ------- 6 ------- -------
          7 ------- ------- 7 ------- -------
          8 ------- ------- 8 ------- -------

hope this helps

Anton
