The DECstation/system 2100, 3100, 5000/1xx and 5000/xx do not have ECC
memory.  Like PCs (well, older PCs :-) they can detect single-bit
errors, but they cannot correct them.

So with a 3100 that avenue isn't a lot of help to you either :-(
