I've heard it said here that it is better to use external disks on a
DECstation 5000/25 when running NetBSD. I wondered at that, because
I've been running with internal disks for quite some time now, without
problems.

However, Monday morning when I came in, my NetBSD box was dead - apparently
due to power glitches from the weekend t-storms.

Upon reboot, my rz2 drive, an RZ-26 of some flavor, stopped the SCSI config-
uration with "unknown phase 0x92". The boot aborted at that point.

Now that happens to be my Ultrix system drive, so I was a bit concerned.
But to my surprise/relief/puzzlement, Ultrix boots and runs without a
whimper. I went back to NetBSD (which boots from rz4), and got the same
rz2 0x92 problem again.

I removed the drive, and all's well with NetBSD again. But I thought I'd
report the problem here, in case somebody has some insight into this and
can tell me how I can put the drive back in my 5000/25 without losing.

Might it be safe to just hack the SCSI config code to ignore this problem?

AdTHANKSvance for any info.
