Hi.
I'm mailing to this list rather than the install one, coz these seem like
DEC-specific questions to me, apologies if this is the wrong thing to do...
I recently installed NetBSD 1.2 on a 3MIN, and everything went surprisingly
(to me, anyway) well.
But...
I get a _lot_ of 'scc1,0:silo overflow' messages when running the serial
port with pppd @ 38k4, although nothing seems too adversely affected
by this. I've tried experimenting with the mtu/mru size, but this
doesn't seem to make much difference, the silo still overflows.
I was hoping that using a smaller mtu/mru would improve overall
throughput as any packets that needed to be re-sent would be smaller.
Any comments? Is this improved in the later snapshots? Do I need a
faster machine and/or more memory?
Errr, should the built-in RRD42 CDROM drive work? It's recognised at
startup and doesn't conflict with anything else, I just can't seem to
mount anything.... Am I correct in trying to use this as a 'rz'
device and mounting it readonly? (couldn`t see anything in MAKEDEV
that gave me any clues) Will this use the ISO 9660 support?
By the way, did I forget to mention that overall I was extremely
impressed with NetBSD so far? I believe I did. Congrats everyone! :)
Certainly far easier than installing a number of versions of "real"
Unix I can think of off-hand...
I'd also like to volunteer to expand the current install guide a
tad, someone new to BSD might not know the format of 'fstab' and the
like... ;)
Regards,
AS
