I'm having a problem installing 1.1 on a 3max (40MB RAM, onboard + 1
TC ethernet adapter, 1 rz55, 2 rz56, cfb). My installation route
was a little creative, so that might be my problem.
Bascially, no matter what kernel I use ( kernel from miniroot,
gennetbsd.aout, arz2netbsd.aout, and dbg.rz2.aout) all grabbed from
ftp.netbsd.org), it loads the kernel and gets all the way to 'copy out
(something) for init' & hangs.
Does anybody know what's wrong?
My installation went like this:
In ultrix:
Label an rz56 (rz2) thusly:
# /dev/rrz2c:
type: SCSI
disk: rs56
label:
flags:
bytes/sector: 512
sectors/track: 54
tracks/cylinder: 15
sectors/cylinder: 810

cylinderskew: 0
headswitch: 0 # milliseconds
track-to-track seek: 0 # milliseconds
drivedata: 0
7 partitions:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg]

c: 1299174 0 unused 1024 8192 # (Cyl. 0 - 1603*)

f: 12800 856376 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16 # (Cyl. 1057*- 1073*)
g: 659768 196608 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16 # (Cyl. 242*- 1057*)
dd the miniroot on /dev/rrz2f
In NetBSD:
Boot off an old rz55 that has NetBSD/pmax -current (circa May, 1995)
fsck & mount /dev/rz2f, grab the kernel that's sitting there (why? To
get support for my TC ethernet card because I can't use thinnet
in this room).
Boot the 1.0 root partition using that 1.1 miniroot generic kernel
that's now there.
newfs /dev/rrz2a
newfs /dev/rrz2g
mount /dev/rz2a /mnt
mkdir /mnt/usr
mount /dev/rz2g /mnt/usr
nfs-mount a partition containing the 1.1 binary dist, & untar that
onto /mnt
copy the generic miniroot kernel to /mnt
sync;sync;sync;halt
Any ideas? Thanks!
