Hi:

This is my first posting to this list (in fact to any list), so please be
patient.

A couple of months ago I found a completely unused DECstation 5000/240
with two RZ25 disks and Ultrix 4.2 installed on one of them. I had
installed NetBSD on a HP300 in similar circumstances and worked great, so
I decided to try it on this one. I labelled the target disk, ftp'd and
installed the bootblocks and the miniroot, halted the machine to boot from
the NetBSD disk and found out that the system had a console password set,
so I just could boot from the Ultrix disk.

I contacted the former administrator but he didn't remember the password,
and when I phoned my local DEC Support Service they told me that they'd
have to change the CPU card (BTW the maintenance contract expired a long
time ago). My question is if anybody knows how to erase that password or
if there is a way to enter full console mode without it.

TIA,
						Santi
