It's a little more extreme than that... 2100s crash, cause unknown
(rcons suspected).  AFAIK, NetBSD 1.1 *can not* come up on a pmax.
(This is one of those assertions that one makes on the net when one
very much hopes to be proven wrong)

I'd be thrilled if my machines could come up and just be missing a
direct console: network access is good enough for me.
