Well, I did make a kernel that compiles by keeping all of the options.
Alas, when it boots the screen becomes unreadable on my monochrome
2100 and eventually crashes (though I don't know why or where -- the
screen in unreadable).  

Any suggestions on how to make the rcons stuff work?  It looks like it
might be trying to write to a deeper (or more shallow?) bitdepth than
it should be.
