That's a test kernel.   I'm somewhat surprised that it doesn't work,
but not *very* surprised.   If you've got a kernel working, that's the
one you should stick with until you've built another from source.

Building from source should be straightforward.   Have you installed
the pmax snapshot on ftp.netbsd.org?   From that, you should be able
to successfully build a kernel - if not, let us know how you're losing
and maybe we can help!
