Uhh...   p is supposed to be the pointer to a process, I believe.
What this really means is that you can no longer exec init, so your
system is crashing.   So describing this as a fix is sort of like
saying that a bullet to the brain is an effective cure for a headache.

I must be losing it - I don't remember you describing a problem with
your kernel hanging.   The only hang I recall hearing about is the one
where the guy was booting on an 8 meg system, and it was slowing down
and finally stopping.   He added memory and the problem went away,
indicating a possible swap problem and also a memory leak.   What was
your hang, again?   Sorry...
