i dunno what's in the maxines, but the chip in the alpha is the
amd79c30a chip, and yes, it does live under the IOCTL ASIC.

looking at the Mach sources for the DECstations, it looks like it's
the same setup on them as on the alpha.


i know nothing about any software that actually uses it.  It looks
like there was a mach driver, to do something or other though.  (i've
not looked at it, i just see appropriately named file:
.../kernel/chips/isdn_79c30* .
