not quite the correct file name, either.  8-)

/pub/ntp/doc/kern.tar.Z

contains two ps files, which look to have a description of what was
done.  However, at first glance, they don't tell you _what_ register
was used on the decstations.  (on the alpha, they didn't use an
undocumented register, they used the pcc, which is a bit harder for
various reasons...)
