Subject: MCLBYTES only 1024 on Pmax family?

I don't understand why MCLBYTES is less than an Ethernet packet.
Personally, I'd like it to be 4k, so I can think about writing
a driver for a T3 interface that can loan out driver buffers,
and eventually do page flipping.

I can see where it doesn't make a lot of sense for Lance
ethernet interfaces that can't  DMA packets into contiguous
host memory; but the DECstations I use have Turbochannel ethernet
boards for just that reason.

Is there some compelling reason to leave MCLBYTES at 1024?
