lamp has the annoying problem that if _anything_ goes wrong,
it's now locked behind two "hard" card-key doors, not the
one "easy" one that it was behind before. There's also the fact that
very few people have the requisite card keys, and i'm on the
east coast for several (at least) months.

In other words, if it crashes or something "strange" happens,
etc., nobody can reboot it for a while. We're working on the
problem (from several angles).
