It appears to work just fine:

mvme167a$ ls -F /proc
0/ 1246/ 404/ 985/ curproc@ mounts version
1/ 216/ 662/ 987/ devices self@
1033/ 264/ 669/ 988/ loadavg stat
1058/ 394/ 786/ cpuinfo meminfo uptime
mvme167a$ cat /proc/version
NetBSD version 9.0_STABLE (netbsd@localhost) (gcc version 7.4.0) NetBSD 9.0_STABLE (GENERIC) #0: Fri Jul 31 12:09:38 PDT 2020

All I did was add the appropriate line to conf/GENERIC and produced a fresh build.
