Ok, this is much better. It boots and installs (I'm using the 10.1

It basically works.

Alright, so it is sfb ( or sfbplus ) and my theory was right, mostly.

But there is a strange offset to the video. I've attached two pics
which show what I mean. See where my pointer has grabbed the window
title bar in the second picture; I've actually grabbed the window and am
dragging it, so that's where the X server thinks the window is. But the
actual displayed objects are shifted to the left.

That's odd. I assume there is no such shift in console output...

I'm going to leave this install on there; I should be able to copy in
new X servers as needed for further testing, if you want to try to chase
this down. The machine is on the network etc so it's easy to get stuff
in and out, I just have to be over at the museum to do it.

Please post dmesg output and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, it's a bit difficult
to see what's going on while having to guess basic info.

My apologies Michael, I was interleaving this work with handling visitors at the museum, as well as working on a few other machines, so my attention was divided. I'll get you full dmesg output if you still need it, but it's definitely attaching as sfb. And I'll get the Xorg log file as well. I should be over there tonight with no visitors around.
