Subject: Weird QZERTY keyboard set up

On a seasoned iMac 233 MHz I installed NetBSD 3.1 & X.

Now, this iMac came to me with its original QZERTY Italian keyboard (the 
layout is similar to that of old typewriters). 
How can I make aware of that:
1) The [character] console?
2) XF86Config?
