FWIW - I built a kernel with softintr.c v 1.7, and it's up on my server now.
I beat on it a little with two active serial ports doing ppp, and it
survived - although I couldn't make it fail before, either.

The old kernel was failing on average every 4th day.
We'll see if the users can tip it over. ;->
