See my other mail - if the eMac is anything like the G3 iMacs then the 
monitor will be /very/ picky about its horizontal frequency - set it to 
72kHz, not 71-73 or anything like that. Then let XFree86 pick a mode.

Besides that - have a look at your /var/log/XFree86.0.log - maybe the 
monitor did provide DDC data that would be helpful for finding a 
working video mode.
