Also, fewer and fewer x86 laptops have working APM. The ACPI system
that they use instead leaves much more of the responsibility in our
hands, and so is similar to the macppc situation. Check the port-i386
or current-users lists for many tales of woe about non-sleeping modern
x86 laptops.
