CFLAGS=3D or COPTS=3D in your /etc/mk.conf.

No idea, mine are all built with -O2 -mcpu=3Dwhatever -mtune=3Dwhatever -
didn't see the MCHK panic on my iBook G4 yet but it's no 7400 so that
may not be relevant anyway.

Most definitely, the optimization apparently compensates it for some
reason.
