that's odd, it /should/ get at least as far as vga does.

Ok, there's your graphics card - 1002,4758 is some ATI device.

Yeah, now it's trying to access the VGA framebuffer which is bound to
fail.

Could you please post an XFree log with the ati driver enabled? The ati
driver should know your card, if it didn't then there's something else wron=
g.
