Unlikely, I've replaced entire disks before and it hasn't changed my
display. From watching Tiger boot, there's some kind of key in /chosen
that identifies the desired boot disk partition by something resembling a
GUID. I'd be more inclined to believe that it's stored in nvram/pram
somewhere, as zapping your pram typically does revert the display to
640x480 until MacOS is booted.
