Yes and no. The patch doesn't do anything to 'support' any particular 
chipset, it only allows XFree86 to access PCI IO space. The problem in 
the mail you linked to is something different though - XFree86 tries to 
mmap() the VGA framebuffer which fails because it's never used on 
macppc. My kernel patch deals with this though by redirecting these 
requests to the first 128KB of the framebuffer. So - go ahead, grab one 
of my kernels and my patched XFree86 and try it - I can't guarantee 
anything but if you get an error it will be a different one and there's 
a chance that it will just work.
This is a bug in XFree86 though and should be fixed there.
