ok, many thanks to Tim for hacking away at ofb.c to get this to where we
are now (putting this firmly in Michael's court! *G*)
things we needed to do to get the Radeon 7000 working in my PM8600.
the 2.08 version of the Radeon Mac Firmware does not properly create an OF
node, so with that version of the Firmware, the Radeon is most likely not
ever going to be useful to NetBSD. however, as luck would have it, the
Firmware flash utility that you download from ATI that has the 2.08 version
also has the old 1.19 version as well. 1.19 properly creates an OF node (or
well, several nodes as Tim pointed out).
some fiddling with ofb.c to get attachment working, and i am now staring at
the AppleVision 1710 display that is currently attached to the Radeon which
is acting as console. it works just fine as console (if a little slow
compared to the onboard video, but that doesn't bother me) but doesn't yet
work with X. the error that i get is:
xf86OpenConsole
Fatal server error:
xf86ReadBIOS: open /dev/mem
it properly probes the Radeon, does all sorts of stuff, then gets there.
let me attach the log output from XFree86 for you to all look at.
we are almost there!!!
