yestreday I build a new CVS kernel on my 9500 with 504 after removing
all patches from the tree. Apparently the only one was in a generic cpu
file in powerpc (I remember a small one suggested by Tim).

Well, that kernel doesn't boot, it hangs after the SCSI settle thing. SO
either the small  patch by Tim was not commited (possible, I should have
done a diff before removing everything) or something is broken again.
