Well, I've now install 1.6.2 successfully and am working on upgrading to 
current.

But, if I boot from my copy of the 'netbsd' file from current, I get a 
message that looks the same as what I remember, it says:

NetBSD/macppc OpenFirmware Boot revision 1.6

DEFAULT CATCH!, code=300 at %SRR0: 0064034    %SRR1: 00003030
  ok
