Perhaps it's not clear -- you use one keystroke to toggle the state of
the pointer buttons. Once it's on, then you use the pointer keys to
act as the mouse buttons.
That is, press num-lock once. Then F1 is the left mouse button -- hold
F1 down as long as you would a normal mouse button. And so on.
What keyboard do you have that doesn't have num-lock? You can always
use an unused control key like ^[
I don't know if this works with XFree86 -- last I checked it doesn't
run on my PowerMacintosh 7300.
