Basically, I get the same results whether I boot with the fw disk
turned on at boot time, or
if I turn it on after boot and the system is up and running.

I get:

  fw0 at fwohci0: 00:03:93:ff:fe:8b:d0:04:0a:02:ff:ff:f0:01:00:00
fwnode0 at fwohci0 Node0: UID 00:d0:4b:20:20:00:00:19

fwnode0: Link Speed: 100Mb/s, mac_rec 64 bytes

Then the system hangs and won't go further on the boot

Hope this helps some. The drive is a Lacie 60 Gig drive that boots
macos x just fine from
openfirmware.
